Nick Kyrgios has barely been able to sleep after hearing that he will be in the Wimbledon final on Sunday. The 27-year-old Australian would have preferred to reach the final battle in a different way, he confessed at an inserted press conference on Friday.
“I was restless and so many thoughts went through my head. I imagined myself winning, losing, everything. Because I’ve never experienced it,” Kyrgios said. “At the moment I’m a bouncing ball and I can’t wait anymore. Yes, I wish the final would be played now.”
Kyrgios has to wait two more days before he can return to action. On Sunday he will compete against Novak Djokovic or the British Cameron Norrie. “I know what to do to calm down. There are still a few days to go and hopefully I can rest better tonight, for example with a cup of chamomile tea.”
Kyrgios was supposed to face 22-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal on Friday afternoon, but he withdrew from the semi-final. The Spaniard is suffering from an abdominal muscle injury.
“It’s not the way I wanted to go to the final, because I really wanted to play that game,” said the number forty in the world. “We both beat each other once and I was looking forward to the third chapter.”
“You don’t want something like this to happen to someone who has done so much for the sport. He’s played so much this year and has had grueling months. I hope he recovers and I’m sure I’ll see him again on a big will hit the podium.”
